Wide construction-joint openings create a serious vulnerability in industrial concrete floors. As the opening increases, hard-wheeled material-handling equipment must strike and cross the exposed joint edges, increasing the risk of impact damage, spalling, reduced operating speeds and ongoing maintenance.
The CANZAC® Armoured Cover Plate Joint is engineered for construction joints where significant slab movement is anticipated. Its two-part sliding system allows the adjoining slab panels to move while the steel cover plate continues to bridge the opening.
This provides heavy-duty protection to both slab edges and maintains a continuous crossing surface for forklifts, reach trucks and other material-handling equipment.
Designed for anticipated joint openings from 35 mm to 85 mm, the system is ideally suited to post-tensioned floors, large-bay fibre-reinforced slabs, cold stores and warehouse doorways where drying shrinkage, post-tensioning or thermal contraction can concentrate movement at the construction joint.
The system is available in two configurations to suit different construction methods:
Nail-on system
A two-part system fixed to conventional timber formwork before the adjoining slab placements are completed.
Freestanding pour-over system
A complete leave-in-place construction joint manufactured to the required slab depth and supplied with the specified dowels and sleeves.
Both systems can be manufactured in mild steel, hot-dip galvanised steel or stainless steel to suit the project environment.
Engineered load transfer
The cover plate protects the surface of the construction joint, while the dowel system transfers vertical loads between the adjoining slab panels and controls differential vertical movement.
Dowel type and spacing must be selected for the slab thickness, concrete strength, subgrade support, anticipated joint opening and applied loading.
