A new build with a floor area of approximately 1960m2, single level facility that requires a high standard of humidity and temperature controlled environments. Historically, buildings that demanded the same critical environments were constructed slabs-on-grade with joints, which either did or could affect the internal enclosure.
At the early planning stage, CANZAC was engaged to provide a solution by the developer. Along with the lead design engineers, a Joint Free Slab design was proposed based on the slabs loading requirements that featured a shelf, along with loading under all the wheels combined.
We provided a design that allowed for a 140mm thick slab joint free, no saw cuts or control joints with a 50mm thick screed on top.
The result is a jointless slab that has STEGO vapour barrier life of the building protection underneath, allowing for superior below slab defence that eliminates the infiltration of moisture through the concrete slabs, which is a significant building defect liability.
